History of the Teddy Bear - Michtoms'


Teddy bears are one of the most popular gifts for children and women to express love.



There are some facts not known about the Teddy Bear. We might know that the name "teddy bear" is afer the former US President Theodore Roosevelt. Do you know why and who found this cuddly and gentle product?



The popularly known history is that the Jewish Couple, Morris and Rose Michtom invented the Teddy Bear.





President Theodore Roosevelt decided to settle over a boundary dispute between Mississippi and Louisiana. On the tour, he was on a hunt for black bears. As the hunt went in vain, a hunting companion of the President caught a bear cub and tied it to a tree. To make president's hunt season successful. Roosevelt rejected to kill the cub and it made the news headlines. Clifford Berryman, a leading American cartoonist, cartooned the event.





Meanwhile, Morris Michtom arrived The US as a refugee, married Rose and was running a small candy store. Rose made toys for managing enough money to buy essentials. Hearing about the President's news, together they made a Bear toy named "Teddy's Bear". It went to be a hit. Morris approached Theodore for using his name for the toy and was granted. Rest is history!
